Churnet Valley Railway
The North Staffordshire Railway Society was formed in the 1970's and bought the old goods yard at Cheddleton Station. Workshops were created there and the first locomotives were moved there in 1977, however British Rail were still using the adjacent railway to move industrial sand from a quarry at Oakamoor. The line was finally closed in 1988 and the society began to arrange for the purchase of the stretch from Oakamoor to Leekbrook Junction. At Churnet Valley railway everybody is welcome to come along and its only approx ten miles from Whitechimnies cottages. The first trains ran on the preserved line in 1996.
Talbot Inn
The Talbot is well known in Biddulph and across Staffordshire as a fine country pub. A popular pub restaurant famous for great food, we are nestled in the historic Biddulph Bowl, created by the ridges of Mow Cop and Biddulph Moor. There is always a warm welcome with roaring log fires, freshly prepared food, a great selection of real ales and a diverse wine menu for you to choose from. The Talbot is approx 3 miles from Whitechimnies cottages.
The Brownlow Inn Pub
The Brownlow Inn is situated in the village of Brownlow, 5 miles outside Congleton, just off the A534 and A34. It is an attractive country pub and restaurant, with some superb views over the rolling Cheshire countryside, towards Mow Cop, which can be seen from the conservatory and dining room. The Brownlow Inn is particularly popular with walkers and cyclists who take advantage of this beautiful surrounding countryside. It's an ideal place to have a rest for a drink and a meal before moving on. Maybe to Mowcop castle next!
Biddulph Valley Way
Following the former railway along the Biddulph Valley, the Way is a 4.5 mile flat surfaced path making it suitable for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The route is suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and buggies. Originally a branch of the North Staffordshire Railway or "Knotty" it has an interesting combination of features such as embankments, cuttings, small copses, hedgerows and ditches which encourage a wide diversity of wildlife.
The Biddulph Valley Way lies just west of the town of Biddulph, situated in the north west area of the Staffordshire Moorlands.

Rudyard Lake
Lying in a fold in thickly wooded hillsides, Rudyard Lake is a haven of peace and tranquility less than amile from the A523 that links Leek to Macclesfield.
The two and a half mile long lake was created more than two centuries ago to supply water for the then expanding canal system of the West Midlands.
Today it is a popular day out, offering walking, boating, sailing and
fishing for visitors from a wide area, from the Manchester conurbation in the north to the Potteries in the south. Rudyard lake is approx 3 miles from Whitechimnies cottages.
